Macvittie College Union was built in 1969 and named in honor of Dr. Robert W. MacVittie, President from 1963-71 and 1972-79. He left briefly when he accepted the presidency of the new SUNY upper-division college at Utica-Rome. He also served as Interim President from 1988-1989.
Originally named the College Union, the building was renamed in 1989.
