Abstract
This syllabus was developed by Professor Claire Gravelin during the 2025/2026 academic year.
Intended Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will:
• Develop and strengthen the academic skills needed to thrive in college – including study strategies, time management, goal setting, and growth mindset.
• Understand yourself as a learner and a future professional, including your strengths, values, and interests.
• Explore a range of academic disciplines and career paths, and understand how the arts, sciences, humanities, and social sciences each approach real-world problems.
• Engage with our course theme – the Future of Work – through multiple disciplinary lenses, developing skills of comparative and global analysis.
• Connect meaningfully with faculty, mentors, peers, and campus resources to build a foundation of belonging and support.
• Develop a 4-year academic plan and experiential learning action plan aligned with your interests and goals.
• Build familiarity with Geneseo’s five General Education “Participation in a Global Society” areas – understanding what each involves and how to make intentional course selections that fulfill them in your future semesters.
